The recipients of the award can be those who have quietly made many contributions to the traditional culture of the nation but are not yet widely known, or semi-professional units that have made many contributions to the preservation and development of traditional culture and art... Dao Tan (1845-1907) held the position of Governor-General twice, and the position of Minister four times under three Nguyen Dynasty kings: Tu Duc, Dong Khanh, Thanh Thai. He was an upright politician, a great patriot, part of the patriots who fought against French invasion and won independence and freedom for the country.
Dao Tan was also a talented all-round artistic activist: a great poet, an unparalleled lyricist, an author and stage director with many masterpieces that make the national stage proud, and for over 100 years has been considered the ancestor of the art of Tuong.
Since 2000, right from its establishment, the Institute for the Preservation and Promotion of National Culture and the Vietnam Culture magazine have established the Dao Tan Award to award collectives and individuals with outstanding works of theater, literature, painting, and music, actively contributing to the cause of national construction and defense, national integration and exchange, and the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural and artistic values.
Initially, the Award was awarded every two years, and from 2005 to present, it has been awarded once a year. Many famous intellectuals and artists at home and abroad have been honored to receive this noble award, such as Professor, Doctor (GSTS) Tran Van Khe, musician Nguyen Vinh Bao, researcher Mich Quang, musician Thuan Yen, GSTS Nguyen Thuyet Phong, GSTS Thai Kim Lan, famous American musician Margaret Bargresser, People's Artists (NSND) Vo Sy Thua, Dinh Qua, Dam Lien, NSND Bach Tuyet, Ho Chi Minh City Hat Boi Art Theater, Dao Tan Tuong Theater, writers and poets Le Thanh Chon, Duong Trong Dat, Nguyen The Ky... The 15th Dao Tan Award was a great success, further affirming that the Institute's Director, Hero of Labor Hoang Chuong; journalist, writer, Editor-in-Chief Nguyen The Khoa and his colleagues, with many diverse activities in various fields, have overcome many difficulties to maintain and elevate the Dao Tan Award over the years, contributing to preserving, researching, conserving and promoting national culture in the new era.
As a result, the art council awarded prizes to the following units: Outstanding semi-professional art troupes: Ke Gam village Tuong troupe, Xuan Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province Tuong club of Thach Loi commune, Cam Giang district, Hai Duong province. Outstanding artists: The late sculptor Nguyen Sang with a set of statues of famous Vietnamese people and heroic Vietnamese mothers. Musician Dinh Tham - author of two excellent songs "Tham mai tinh anh" and "Don't think I'm inspired by the life and thoughts of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong".
